The reason behind this is that they are ashamed of the fact. People with these kinds of disorder should know that it is a common disorder and be cured with the help of proper treatment at a rehab center that offers eating disorders treatment.
Read More : eating disorders treatmentAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08023278849663192336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3525152959973167049.post-83885531022136381742012-02-01T09:31:12.855-08:002012-02-01T09:31:12.855-08:00Jessica is one of the finest and "daring"...Jessica is one of the finest and "daring"-est registerd dietitians in the field of eating disorders. I'm so glad to hear her speak her "truths"; this spectrum of disease is ruining lives, creating so much pain, and denies joy in living to anyone touched by this disease. I believe we need more options in addressing this disease and have not been happy with the "assembly-line" treatments offered by the centers who believe they are the experts. Women are so programmed at any age to be so hard on themselves about their appearance. Since having a child with anorexia, I have tried to ignore my obsession with my weight and just "be" and do everything in moderation - food, exercise, thoughts, and drop the dirty word "DIET" out of my vocabulary. Like Thea, I'm also trying to eat for good health, not just to loose weight and it makes a huge difference in my attitude towards food and toward ME. I feel much better not eating processed food and sugar and that translates into more positive self acceptance-another important message from Thea. It also sounds like...Becky, I share your confusion. It also sounds like Jess is confused, and by her repeated accounts, is just "beginning a conversation." I hope that until she is more comfortable with this process, and figures out more for herself where she is going with this (though she says it's not about weight, her goals of wanting to lose 30 more pounds and being disappointed with great health results and not as much weight as she would like tell conflicting stories. I also worry about a goal of running a marathon, which seems particularly extreme for someone who is talking to the ED community.) So, I wish her luck on her personal journey, but hope that some of the damaging conflation of weight loss=health improvement will go away, and perhaps until she figures this out more for herself we should be cautious about promoting her message. I do wonder how talking to an audience of ED survivors would feel in terms of her goals of weight loss and marathon running (when ED often has an extreme exercise element...) Society in general can counteract this influence by speaking up and sharing helpful messages that accept people of all sizes, shapes, colors, etc. for being the amazing people they are. Write articles, send a note to magazine editors when you don't agree with what they are putting in their magazines. Don't buy the gossip magazines. I wrote a letter to Minnesota Monthly's editor after an upsetting spread they had with an emaciated model and the editor responded to me saying they got a lot of backlash and would change their ways.

As a parent you can ask a lot of open ended questions about what your teen thinks about those photos, people and editors who share this stuff.
